SHJ helps new communities develop in the United States and Canada. Having a local Secular Humanistic Judaism congregation or community gives opportunity for a like-minded group of individuals to connect, celebrate holidays, study together, educate children, share in life cycle events, and provide support in times of joy and sorrow.
The Society for Humanistic Judaism helps individual members find other Humanistic Jews in their area. We assist in developing strategies to reach out to like-minded secular and cultural Jews. The SHJ Rabbi and Executive Director provide support as the community grows.
The SHJ has a treasure trove of resources available to members to support organizing efforts — Shabbat and holiday materials, advertising and marketing tools, adult and youth educational curricula, YouTube videos and DVDs describing the philosophy and practice of Humanistic Judaism. It may also be possible to arrange a visit from the SHJ Rabbi to help with organizing efforts. For more information, please contact Rabbi Miriam Jerris.
We are currently working to organize Humanistic Jewish communities in the following areas and have individuals serving as contacts:
We have also had multiple requests about Humanistic Jewish communities in the following communities and are looking for organizers:
If you live in one of these communities and want to help organize, please contact Rabbi Miriam Jerris.
