From generation to generation! As a movement that is over 50 years old, we are currently serving fourth- and fifth-generation Humanistic Jews.
Still, most folks in our movement joined as adults, having grown up in other denominations or with no religious backgrounds. Those of us with children seek to educate our kids Jewishly without dogma, not wanting to “play along” with stories we don’t believe.
Humanistic Judaism provides many avenues to youth education and Jewish connection for families who identify as “just Jewish,” culturally Jewish, “Jew-ish,” “Jewish and…,” “half-Jewish,” multicultural, “not religious,” secular, humanistic, atheist and/or agnostic. We offer Sunday schools, congregational youth groups, Bar and Bat Mitzvah training, post-mitzvah educational programs, and youth conferences.
SHJ’s HuJews Youth Program provides connections for teens and college students such as conferences, an active Instagram page, and social justice projects offering a Judaism that coincides with the values and beliefs of secular, cultural, and humanistic youth.
