This semester one of our main goals was to create a safe space for all Jews at Sarah Lawrence College. Given everything going on in the world we wanted Jewish students to still be able to feel connected to their culture. We had multiple events, some surrounding holidays such as a Rosh Hashanah Tabling Event and a Hanukkah Party.
We also hosted Shabbats with different themes that provided further education on Humanistic Judaism and Jewish History. We had multiple guest speakers: Professor Samantha Bassler from NYU who spoke of Alumni Barbara Walters’ connection to Humanistic Judaism, and Rabbi Tzemah Yoreh, leader of The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, who spoke about the history of Zionism.
All in all, it was a good start to the year for our club. We were able to celebrate Jewish traditions and help teach others about Humanistic Judaism.
